  1. Teleste's initial contract for 226 Copenhagen S-bane EMUs is worth €40m, with deliveries from 2028 to 2040 and first passenger service expected in 2032.
  2. Eurofima is providing Srbijavoz a EUR 12m, 10-year loan for six Siemens Vectron A17 locomotives certified for Serbia, Hungary, Austria and Germany.
  3. Italo selected Nomad Digital for 5G connectivity on 26 Siemens Verlaro trainsets entering the German market from 2028.

Finnish technology group Teleste will supply passenger information, public address, CCTV and passenger communication systems for 226 fully automated four-car EMUs ordered for Copenhagen's S-bane network, in an initial contract worth €40m that excludes maintenance and additional train options.

Siemens Mobility selected Teleste for the order. Deliveries are scheduled to run from 2028 through 2040, a 12-year supply window that reflects the scale of the fleet replacement. The first trains are expected to carry passengers in 2032, meaning the on-board systems must be ready well before the fleet reaches full deployment.

Eurofima finances Serbian locomotive acquisition

Eurofima has agreed a EUR 12m, 10-year financing package with Serbia's national passenger operator Srbijavoz. The funds support the acquisition of six Siemens Vectron A17 multi-system electric locomotives, which Srbijavoz will deploy on international rail services operated under a public service obligation contract.

The locomotives will be certified for operation in Serbia, Hungary, Austria and Germany — a four-country authorisation that underpins cross-border PSO services connecting the Serbian network with Central European markets.

Italo equips Verlaro fleet for German launch

Italian high-speed operator Italo has chosen Nomad Digital to provide 5G internet connectivity and the Nomad Engage portal for the 26 Siemens Mobility Verlaro trainsets it has ordered for its entry into the German market from 2028.

The system will combine cellular and Low Earth Orbit satellite technologies, supported by what Nomad calls an 'intelligent hybrid aggregation' tool. The supplier says the tool optimises performance for passengers and data costs for operators — a claim that German open-access competition will test from the first year of service.

TRACCS appoints Karen Stintz as Managing Director

Canadian industry association TRACCS Transit & Rail has named Karen Stintz, a former Toronto city councillor and Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission, as Managing Director. Her brief: advance the association's mandate to improve the safety, efficiency and reliability of passenger rail delivery across Canada.

'Karen understands how transit policy and investment decisions affect the people who build, operate and rely on our rail systems', said Paul Murphy, Vice-President and Co-Founder of TRACCS. 'Her leadership will help bring government and industry together to address persistent delivery challenges and achieve better value for Canadians.'

Bosch Engineering names new rail division head

Philipp Kurek took over as head of the rail technology division at Bosch Engineering on September 1, succeeding Heiko Mangold, who is moving to a new role outside the group.

Bosch supplies collision warning systems for trams based on proven, mass-produced technology from the automotive sector. Kurek sees an opportunity to widen that advantage. 'Through closer interlinking with the Off-Highway division, we can leverage synergies in our proven system platforms even more effectively and offer our customers efficient, safe solutions', he said.

With Teleste's deliveries starting in 2028 and Italo's German services launching the same year, the coming two years will show whether supplier schedules hold against operator launch dates across these contracts.
