JMT Industrie Holding GmbH, a new Austrian holding company targeting €1.7bn in 2026 consolidated revenue and 7,900 staff worldwide, will consolidate four track-machinery businesses owned by the Max-Thuerer family, Plasser & Theurer has confirmed.
The holding brings Plasser & Theurer, Robel, Matisa and Speno together under a single roof. The four previously sat in separate corporate entities across Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. Each will continue to operate as an independent business unit under its own brand, management and customer relationships. The restructuring is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.
What does JMT Industrie actually do?
JMT Industrie Holding GmbH functions as the umbrella entity, with four sub-groups reporting through it:
- Plasser & Theurer Group (Austria): global railway construction and track maintenance machines; expected 2026 revenue ~€1.1bn, ~5,600 staff
- Robel Group (Germany): machines and services for rail infrastructure construction and maintenance, with growth plans in automation and rail treatment
- Matisa (Switzerland): heavy-duty track construction and maintenance machinery, with a strong European market position
- Speno International (Switzerland): rail grinding and rail care specialist
Why is the family restructuring now?
A Plasser & Theurer spokesperson said Robel, Speno and Matisa had been part of the Max-Theurer investment portfolio since the 1990s. Bringing them together under one holding creates a uniform group structure and consolidates all international Plasser companies under the Plasser & Theurer brand registered in Austria.
The reorganisation does not affect the family's separate training and consultancy business, Global Rail Group, which remains independently owned and outside the new holding.
What does the CEO say?
"We have achieved a great deal over the past two years, despite the challenging circumstances. To build on this success, we are now putting the right structure in place. We are restructuring all our companies and, in doing so, building a future-ready, high-performing organisation — the foundation for further growth," said Johannes Max-Theurer, owner and CEO of the Plasser & Theurer Group.
Will the family retain control?
Plasser & Theurer confirmed the group would remain wholly owned by the Max-Theurer family, with no plans to sell, take on outside investors or pursue a stock-market listing. Robel, Matisa and Speno will continue to operate as fully independent companies alongside the new Plasser & Theurer Group, with the holding acting as a structural rather than operating layer.
What does it mean for customers?
For buyers and suppliers, the change signals continuity rather than disruption: brands, sites and management stay in place. The four units will still bid independently on track-machinery contracts in their respective markets. The €1.1bn revenue target for Plasser & Theurer Group alone suggests that brand now accounts for roughly two-thirds of the family's track-machinery turnover.
What to watch next?
The next test will be how the four units execute against the €1.7bn 2026 revenue target, particularly as European infrastructure spending cycles shift. With restructuring due to complete by year-end 2026, JMT Industrie's first consolidated annual results will set the baseline for any future capital structure decisions the family might take.
